Swanky

After flying to Toronto, exploring Niagara Falls and running a race and seeing the Blue Jays, it was time to move on... to Detroit!

But first, a stop for doughnuts at Tim Horton's:
Monday morning, we all crammed in the back of a taxi sedan (the hotel ordered a cab for two adults and two children!) and caught the train to Windsor.
We took another exciting taxi ride, this time under the river and over to the MotorCity Casino Hotel in Detroit. The Canadian driver apparently doesn't cross the border often and didn't know his way. We drove in circles asking passersby for directions and going the wrong way down two one-way streets - including a freeway on ramp.

Luckily, we finally arrived in one piece at our super-swanky hotel:
It was huge and gaudy and pretty much just like in the movies.
Including cameras everywhere, security checks at the hotel elevators and guys in slick, matching suits:
This isn't the best angle, but you get the idea:
The view from our wall of 11th-floor windows - Detroit, including the baseball stadium:
Canada and the Ambassador Bridge:
Monday night, I spotted emergency vehicles parked on the bridge. The next morning, we heard that a bomb threat had shut down the span.

I had to check out the gym, which was the nicest place I've ever worked out! There were four treadmills, four ellipticals, three bikes, free weights, medicine balls and several weight machines.

On each cardio machine was a towel and bottle of water.:
Besides the usual amenities, the room was stocked with complimentary earbuds, fresh fruit, chilled water bottles and a pitcher of water with slices of citrus:
Mom and Dad came down for some biking:
while I pounded out some miles on the treadmill:
Despite my race just the day before, I felt strong! I ended up running intervals for 4.31 miles and worked up a nice sweat right in front of the security camera. I hope they enjoyed the show :)
After a quick cleanup and a hassle with the rental car (which turned out OK because we got MAJOR discounts because of it - great customer service, Enterprise!!), we were off to Comerica Park to see the Tigers take on the Angels.
90 degrees at game time, but we chose seats in the shade and didn't wilt nearly as much as in Toronto.
Tigers win! It was a great park and a nice night for baseball!
Next up: The Henry Ford :)
