Walking in a winter wonderland (12/30/10)

Dad, who loves to hike but sometimes has a hard time getting motivated to actually hit the trails, ASKED ME to go on a hike during break this week! WOOHOO!

We headed out this morning to Angel's Rest in the Gorge, a short but fairly steep hike just a few miles east of town. We bundled up and expected to see snow at the top. And did we ever!
Here comes the snow level:
The clouds parted when we reached the top. There was no wind, so we sat in the warm sun on this bench and ate our lunch over looking the river:
Made it all the way up and down!

Sight-seeing flights for family

After Grandpa Gene's memorial service, friend Michael offered to take family on sight-seeing flights. Cousin-in-law Brett and Uncle Denny went up first. Brett is way too tall to crawl into the back of that little plane :)
Cousin Tisch and Brad went up in the second flight.
Not a big fan of small planes, I've never been up with Michael. But I did hop in at the end and taxi to the hangar!
After the air adventures, we joined the rest of the fam at Cousin Mike and AJ's house in McMinnville.
The boys:
Cousins:
Sisters:
We gathered again the next day for lunch after church and then to look at pictures and share memories from the past. What a wonderful five days of getting to know family and spending good time together.

Remembering Otis Eugene

In early December, family came to town to remember Otis Eugene, Brad's grandfather. First was the military ceremony and lots of family/eating time. Then we held a memorial service at Newberg Friends Church.

Men from Friendsview sang:
And all three boys shared memories and tears. Cousin Doug read what Denny had prepared:
Middle son, Steve:
Stan, the youngest:
After, the church hosted a lunch for family. Sherry made these super-cool placemats!
Still to come... a sightseeing plane ride and hangout time at Mike and AJ's...

Road ID discount!

Hello all my running/cycling friends!

Sis-in-law Jill gave me a Road ID bracelet for Christmas - it's basically a medical/emergency/ID bracelet for runners and cyclists. Since I don't run with my license, I've wanted to get one in case something happens while I'm out there.

Anyway... I ordered mine last night and today they sent me an online coupon for family and friends. So if you've been looking at getting one (or maybe you're thinking about it now!), use this coupon code and get $1 off your order. Hey... $1 is better than $0!! ;)

Coupon Number: ThanksElizabethR1709069

The code is good for $1 off any Road ID order placed by 1/27/2011. To order, simply go to RoadID.com or click the link below:

Merry Christmas!!

But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons. Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, "Abba, Father." So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir.

Galatians 4:4-7
